In Grid connected (Grid Tie) Solar Power Plants, the solar power (DC) produced by solar panels is directly connected to Grid [Electric line (AC)] by the inverter. The main advantage of this system is that there is no need for batteries. The main parts of Grid Inverters are Solar Panels, Grid Tie Inverter and Mounting structure.
Take the case study of an office which having a load of 20KW [ a/c, lighting, etc] and working 5 hrs daily. Per day power consumption is 20KW x 5 hr = 100KWhr , ie 100 units per day.
To reduce power consumption a 10 KW solar grid tie system is installed. It produce 40 units per day. So the balance 60 units will be consumed from Grid ( EB power) In case of cloudy days, the solar power plant will produce only 10 units and the balance 90 units will be consumed from Grid.
When there is less load – eg during lunch time, they solar excess energy produced by Grid Tie Solar power plant will be given to Grid { EB line}.When Net metering comes, the Electricity board will pay for this excess power (generated from Solar) given to the Grid.
Grids tie power plant will switch off automatically when the EB power cut off.
